Amado V. Hernandez was a poet,
playwright, novelist and awarded as National Artist for Literature. He also
experienced to be a guerilla and labor leader that inspired him to make novels
such as Mga Ibong Mandranggit and Luha ng Buwaya. He was proclaimed as National
Artist in 1973 for “his contribution to the development of Tagalog prose.
He died on March 24, 1970 in the wake of the First Quarter Storm, whose leaders and activists recited his words. Isang Dipang Langit (An Arm-Stretch of Sky), Kung Tuyo na ang Luha Mo, Aking Bayan (When Your Tears Have Dried, My Country), Panata sa Kalayaan (Pledge to Freedom), and the novel Luha ng Buwaya (Crocodile Tears) are the legacies he left for us.
