Juan Nakpil was a civic leader,
civil engineer, teacher, and an architect who believed that there’s a term
Philippine Architecture that pertains to the architecture that reflects the
culture and tradition of the Filipinos. He was named as National Artist for architecture in 1973 and was regarded as the Dean of Filipino Architects. He founded the “Philippine Architects Society” in 1933 or the Philippine Institute of Architects.
He is known for his works: Geronimo de los Reyes Building, Capitol Theater,Magsaysay Building, Captain Pepe Building, Philippine Village Hotel, Manila Jockey Club, Rufino Building, Rizal Theater, University of the Philippines Administration, and the reconstructed Rizal house in Calamba.
